Due to the snowy weather, there will be a two hour delayed start of school today. That means that schools will open two hours after their usual time and buses will pick up students two hours after their regular times. There are no before school programs and PreK classes are cancelled. We will still have our regular Wednesday early release at the usual times. Again, we will have a two hour delayed start of school in Westbrook today. Take your time and be safe coming to school today!

The Explore the Stars event scheduled for this evening at WMS has been postponed due to predicted cloud cover and low temperatures. A new date will be announced soon.

The Explore the Stars event tonight is canceled due to temperature and viewing conditions.

Please plan to attend one of the upcoming Community Conversations on how the school budget is developed. Thursday, January 30 at 5:30pm (with a spaghetti supper at 5pm) at Saccarappa School or Saturday, February 1 at 9:00am (with a pancake breakfast at 8:30am) at Westbrook High School. See you there!

Join us on Saturday, February 8th, for a pancake breakfast in the Saccarappa School cafeteria from 8:00-10:00 a.m. All Ssaccarappa School families are welcome and children must be accompanied by an adult. We hope to see you there!

Explore the stars with the Northern Stars Planetarium! All students in grades K-6 will be attending planetarium presentations during the day on January 28th, and all Westbrook families are invited in the evening for an additional workshop. Hope to see you there!

The Westbrook School Department is hosting an ABCs of Racism conversation with Francie Latour on Tuesday, January 21st, at 5:30 p.m. The presentation will be at Canal School, and all families are invited to attend. There will be free childcare available.

The Brea Lu Cafe is offering a free pancake to all Westbrook elementary school students for every five books read through June! Bookmarks are being sent home in your child's backpack. Merely record the title for all the books read and have your child's teacher sign. Then, you can take the bookmark into Brea Lu for a free pancake! Thank you, Brea Lu!

Thank you to the Kiwanis Club for reading to our Kindergarten students and providing them with books. Westbrook is fortunate to have so many organizations supporting our children.

Such a fun event last night. Thank you to everyone who came out in the cold to participate, especially those who volunteered to make it possible.

Wintery weather is in the forecast and weather conditions may cause us to delay the start of school or cancel school. I will send an automated phone call, text message, and email announcing our plans, typically between 5-5:30am. We will also post information on channel 6, 8, and 13, the school department website, and the school department social media. Please see the attached letter from September explaining the full plan for winter weather.

Saccarappa celebrated Safe, Ready, and Respectful behavior last week with a Movement Break Party! Each class submitted their favorite movement break video, and then each grade came to the cafeteria and had a chance to get their wiggles out with friends. Well done, Shining Stars!

Saccarappa is thankful for our community partners. Last week, the Altrusa Club of Portland visited our kindergarten classes to read and hand out books to the students. The students also enjoyed blankets donated by the Warm Hugs group at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church. Thank you to all of the local organizations who go above and beyond to support Westbrook Schools.

The lost and found is filling up! If you see something that may be yours, encourage your child to visit the entryway to retrieve it. The building is also open from 8 to 4 every school day if you want to look for yourself. Thank you!
