Yesterday, Mrs. Armstrong invited families into her classroom for a cookie decorating party! Students got to invite two family members to come into Congin to decorate cookies and to meet some classmates!

Check out these amazing Congin Cougar writers! In Mrs. Beliveau’s class, students had the opportunity to research arctic animals and write what about what they learned! Check out these pieces of writing and the illustrations…which even included some labels!

In art, our kindergarten cougars drew inspiration from the Northern Lights and created these pine trees with Northern Lights using a variety of mediums with Teacher Jones!

Altrusa Club read to all the kindergarten classes yesterday through their ABC program! (Altrusa.Books.Children). This is a yearly tradition! These books are purchased by customers from Books A Million and donated to the Altrusa Club.
Thank you Altrusa Club!

Our kindergarten cougars visited the Festival of Trees today! Our cougars read different versions of the gingerbread bread man and they compared and contrasted them over the past couple weeks. This field trip was their culminating activity to celebrate all of their work. Kids enjoyed a gingerbread man snack donated by our amazing PTO, and they were able to hear a read aloud by Dr. Lancia!

It’s sport day at Congin in celebration of our work with gratitude last month! Take a look at these sporty cougars!

Today is day 3 of our 12 Days of Kindness! Today students were challenged to write a thank you note to a teacher or staff member!

Wintery weather is in the forecast and weather conditions may cause us to delay the start of school or cancel school. I will send an automated phone call, text message, and email announcing our plans, typically between 5-5:30am. We will also post information on channel 6, 8, and 13, the school department website, and the school department social media. Please see the attached letter from September explaining the full plan for winter weather.

Our lost and found is growing! Make sure to take a look and to remind your child to pick up anything that might be theirs.

Congratulations to our own Stacy Symbol who is getting an apartment building in Westbrook named after her for her work as Chair of the Housing Authority for 14 years. Stacy strived to build affordable housing for older adults, and is now being recognized.
Check out these 3rd grade cougars, Ali and Trevinho, who interviewed Mrs. Symbol about the building being named after her for a writing project that they are doing with Mrs. Powers!

Last week we had a very special guest join us, author Kelly Starling Lyons! Kelly talked with our cougars about how she became an author and the inspiration behind her books. Additionally, our Den Ambassadors helped to greet Kelly Starling Lyons with banners and thank you notes before our assembly.

Reminder: Children’s author Kelly Starling Lyons will be speaking at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center this evening at 6:00pm. Doors open at 5:45. The first 50 students to arrive will receive a free book signed by the author!

Mrs. Pecoraro’s and Mrs. Powers’s fourth grade class have been working on memoir writing where they have been focusing on stories in their lives with an important message. The fourth grade cougars invited Mrs. Townsend’s third grade class to come in and provide feedback using a TAG protocol: T- tell something you like. A- ask a question. G- give a suggestion. The cougars did a great job!

Happy Veterans Day! Check out the letters and artwork that were made by our FLS students and 3rd and 4th grade cougars! These will be sent to local veterans.

Happy Election Day! Today our 3rd and 4th grade cougars got to participate in a mock election! Students took turns being in charge of the registration table, and students participated in voting! Students had a great time, and they got to hear the results on the announcements at the end of the day!
We hope everyone was able to get out and vote safely today at the Community Center!
