Mrs. Townsend’s second grade class has been hatching chickens! They have hatched 11 chicks and all are strong and thriving! Such an engaging and fun project for our cougars!

We have our first chick to hatch in Mrs. Townsend’s second grade class! Classrooms around the school got to watch the “chick camera” to see if any other eggs would hatch. We’ll see if any others join us tomorrow!
Our Congin Cougar assembly to roll out our new theme of courage!
Congin is having our own version of March Madness! Various teachers have recorded themselves reading books with the theme of perseverance and each day, students listen to two books. Students choose their favorite as a class, and we announce the winner each day on the morning announcements. We will keep going until we have just 1 winner!
When it’s the MLB opening day, Congin Cougar Staff show up with their baseball attire!
Just a reminder that current kindergarteners will have no school on Thursday, March 28th and Friday, March 29th. We will be holding kindergarten screening on those days for our upcoming kindergarten cougars!
As of this afternoon, roads have mostly been cleared, the power is back on at Congin, and power is on track to be restored in that part of the city this evening. That means that schools will be open tomorrow! If anything changes, I will notify you in the morning. Otherwise, we can plan on a regular day at all schools. This includes the PreK program, Adult Education, and the LEARNS before and after school program at the Community Center.
Thank you to our Public Works crews and power company workers who have been hard at work all weekend.

Ms. Bertino’s third grade class has been working on area and perimeter. To apply the skills they learned, students participated in a project where they built houses, malls, or zoos with a certain budget. Students then used their plans to build their structures with carboard and other materials!
Did you know that Congin has a College Knowledge Team? This group of cougars meets with our counselor, Mrs. Woolworth, each week and they discuss different universities nationally and internationally. Students study the universities, vocabulary, and universities that famous people have gone to, and they compete with our other elementary schools in Westbrook to show what they know.
Today, our College Knowledge teams participated in our district-wide competition. Our teams came in 2nd and 3rd place! We are so proud of our cougars and their hard work!
Meet our 4th Grade Congin Cougar Civil Rights Team! These students meet each week with Mrs. Richardson to discuss various topics, including Women's History Month! These students have been coming up with trivia questions each week to share on the morning announcements to share what they have learned about Women's History Month!
Here is an update from Mrs. Townsend's second grade class who are incubating chicken eggs. Today is day 7, and students can see veins, eyes and bodies. Check out one of the eggs below!
Congin Cougars celebrate Pi Day! Students celebrated with a variety of activities including our 3rd graders creating a link chain representing the numbers that make up pie! Students also participated in graphing and other mathematical activities to celebrate Pi Day!
Check out Mrs. Armstrong’s first grade cougars who made leprechaun traps! Students designed their own traps and then built them using a variety of materials. Other Congin classrooms got to visit today as students explained their design and how they planned on catching leprechauns!
Check out Mrs. Townsend’s 2nd grade class who are hatching chicken eggs! Students are learning about the process of hatching eggs and will wait 21 days for the hatchlings to arrive! Until then, they will be making observations and writing what they see.
Our Den Ambassadors got to meet with Representative Suzanne Salisbury today after their presentation at the school committee meeting last month. Students got to ask questions about the Westbrook School Committee and they got to share some of the projects that they have been working on. Suzanne Salisbury also gave the Den Ambassadors a certificate for all of the work that they have accomplished!
Our 4th grade Den Ambassadors helped Mr. Bisson build our new GaGa Ball Pit on our playground this morning! Thank you to our Congin School PTO for fundraising for this great addition to our playground!
