For anyone who was wondering what a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)education can do for kids, here is one answer. Congratulations to the Westbrook Middle School Windstorm Challenge Team. They earned 3rd place overall (out of about 60 teams) and an Innovative Design Award! Way to go, team!! (And thank you to Mr. Moulen and Ms. Raymond!)
This kind of project allows students to practice real-world skills of design. They design and construct a floating platform for a scale model wind turbine, and then deliver a presentation to a panel of expert judges. The event is designed for student teams with a diverse range of experiences and there is no cost to the students.
