Proficiency Based Teaching & Learning

K - 12 Learning Standards

Dr. Peter Lancia, Superintendent of Schools

Jodi Mezzanotte, Assistant Superintendent

Westbrook's Learning standards are set for K-12. Students follow a continuum, or a staircase, of standards beginning in kindergarten and culminating in twelfth grade, adding levels of complexity as they meet proficiency targets throughout the grades.
Standards are written for English Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Modern and Classical Languages, Visual and Performing Arts, Health and Physical Education, and Career Preparation as well as the Guiding Principles and Habits of Work. Westbrook's Learning Standards are aligned with Maine's Learning Standards which follow the Common Core State Standards in ELA and math, Next Generation Science Standards in science, and Maine Learning Results in the other disciplines.
