Great Things are Happening in Westbrook...

Firefighting program at WRVC Featured on WGME CBS 13!

Recently, WGME CBS 13 visited the Firefighting Program at WRVC as part of an ongoing series about innovative reaching and learning in Maine schools. Teachers John Brooks and David Ruobo and their students were interviewed. Students were working on knot tying as an important part of safety in order to carry equipment in dangerous situations. They demonstrated what they were learning and described why it was important. Their classroom provides a simulation of what its like to work in a fire station, complete with a fire truck, training space, and radios broadcasting live calls from the region. The program is dynamic and prepares students for careers in firefighting. Many students also enroll in the EMT program at WRVC which opens many other possibilities and future opportunities.
