Information on Advancement on the Teacher's Scale
Per ARTICLE 16 of the latest collective bargaining agreement:
CRITERIA FOR ADVANCEMENT ON SALARY SCALE TO BACHELOR'S PLUS 30 OR MASTER'S PLUS 30 CATEGORIES
A. The program must be mutually agreed upon in advance. The form for pre-approval of courses can be located to the right under FORMS. In addition to work in the teacher's academic field and must offer a potential impact on teaching and learning in Westbrook.
B. Courses officially suggested or required by the School Department will automatically be accepted.
C. Courses and graduate programs approved prior to Westbrook employment are subject to approval.
D. All courses shall be for graduate credit unless specifically approved to fill a gap in the teacher's undergraduate training.
E. The average mark for the thirty (30) hours must be a "B".
F. All work shall be in new courses (i.e., in courses not previously taken).
G. Placement on an advance salary scall shall be done only at the beginning of the school year. Teachers must inform the Superintendent of School in writing by January 30 of the school year prior to the school year in which they will have earned enough credits to move to the next salary scale.
H. Only courses and graduate programs at an accredited Uiversity or College may be counted as credit by advance approval of the Superintendent of Schools, including thos conducted on-line and in blended formats.
Per ARTICLE 17 of the latest collective bargaining agreement:
CRITERIA FOR RECOGNITION OF MASTER'S DEGREE ON THE SALARY SCALE
A. Master's degree must be from an accredited college or university degree granting institution.
B. Program must be in the field of education, including technology or liberal arts.
C. Persons with a Master's degree transferring into the system must meet the above criteria.
