It Takes a Village to Raise a
Child. The phrase is attributed to an old
African proverb. Its exact origin seems to
be lost in time, however, children's author
Jane Cowen-Fletcher wrote a book titled
It Takes A Village in which a young
African girl searches for her younger
brother, only to find the rest of the
village has been watching over him as well.
Westbrook Adult & Alternative Learning is
often the village that parents need to help
raise their children to develop positive
attitudes, active imaginations, and a sense
of belonging that is often missing. As
one parent of an Alternative Learning
student put it,
This program is a life
raft in challenging times.
Adult Education has been the
cornerstone of life-long learning in the
Westbrook School Department for decades.
Our courses are semester-based running
September-December & January-May and our
office is open during the summer for GED
testing and tutoring.
Please take a moment to surf

has struggled in school, please pass on the

Alternative Learning.
